Same-Day Smile Makeover in Melbourne
What’s a smile makeover?
A smile makeover is a comprehensive, individualised treatment plan that combines multiple cosmetic and restorative dental procedures to improve your smile's aesthetics and function. Rather than a specific treatment, it's a customised approach addressing your unique combination of dental concerns.
Not a single procedure: A smile makeover isn't one treatment - it's a strategic plan combining procedures to achieve comprehensive improvement. Your specific plan depends on your dental health, aesthetic goals, and individual anatomy.
This cosmetic dental procedure is elective in nature and may not be appropriate for all patients. Individual results and restoration longevity differ significantly between patients. For comprehensive Treatment risks and considerations, please visit our Treatment risks page here

Porcelain & Composite Veneers
Veneers are thin shells that cover the front surface of teeth to address aesthetic concerns including discolouration, chips, gaps, or misshapen teeth. We offer both porcelain veneers (lab-fabricated, more durable, 10-15 year lifespan) and composite veneers (directly applied, more affordable, 5-7 year lifespan).
Veneers require removal of tooth enamel (typically 0.5mm) and are permanent alterations. They may be used following orthodontic treatment to address residual aesthetic concerns.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding uses tooth-coloured composite resin applied directly to teeth to repair chips, close small gaps, improve tooth shape, or mask discolouration. The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes per tooth and is more affordable than veneers, though the material is less durable (5-7 years typically) and more prone to staining.
Bonding is appropriate for minor cosmetic improvements and small repairs.
Dental Crowns
Crowns are full-coverage restorations that rebuild damaged, heavily filled, or weakened teeth. We offer both traditional crowns (requiring two appointments over 2-3 weeks) and same-day crowns using CEREC digital technology.
CEREC uses 3D imaging to design and mill crowns in a single appointment. Both traditional and CEREC crowns achieve good fit and function when properly fabricated. Crown lifespan averages 10-15 years with proper care.
Dental Implants
Dental implants replace missing teeth by surgically placing titanium posts in the jawbone that support artificial teeth (crowns). We offer:
- Conventional implants (3-6 month healing before crown placement)
- Immediate implants (tooth extraction and implant placement same day)
- Bone grafting (when jawbone volume is insufficient for implant support)
Implant treatment takes 3-9 months total depending on healing requirements and case complexity.
Professional Teeth Whitening
Professional teeth whitening addresses tooth discolouration and staining using higher-concentration bleaching agents than over-the-counter products. Our in-office treatment includes:
- Professional cleaning
- Application of whitening gel
- LED light activation
- Treatment duration: approximately 90 minutes
Results typically lighten teeth several shades and last 6 months to 2 years with proper maintenance (avoiding staining foods/drinks, good oral hygiene, touch-up treatments).
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign straightens teeth using removable clear plastic aligners as an alternative to traditional braces. The aligners are less visible and can be removed for eating and oral hygiene. However, they must be worn 20-22 hours daily for treatment effectiveness.
Treatment involves:
- Digital scanning and treatment planning
- Custom aligner series fabricated
- Aligner changes every 1-2 weeks
- Check-ups every 6-8 weeks
Treatment duration varies by case complexity: typically 12-18 months for moderate cases, though simple cases may complete in 6-9 months. Invisalign works well for mild to moderate alignment issues but has limitations for severe crowding, complex rotations, or skeletal bite problems.
Palatal Expanders
Palatal expanders are orthodontic devices that gradually widen the upper jaw to address:
- Severe crowding (creating space for teeth)
- Crossbite (upper teeth fitting inside lower teeth)
- Narrow jaw arches
- Airway issues related to narrow palate
The device is adjusted regularly over several months to achieve gradual, controlled expansion. Most effective in growing children and adolescents before jaw fusion occurs.
Crown Lengthening (Gum Contouring)
Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure that removes excess gum tissue (and sometimes underlying bone) to expose more tooth structure. This addresses excessive gingival display (gummy smile) when caused by gum tissue covering too much of the tooth crowns.
The procedure is performed using a scalpel or dental laser under local anaesthetic. Recovery involves discomfort and swelling for several days to a week, with complete healing taking several weeks.
Crown lengthening specifically addresses gum tissue causes. Excessive gingival display from other causes requires different treatments:
- Hyperactive lip: Lip repositioning surgery or botulinum toxin
- Skeletal jaw positioning: Orthognathic surgery
Consultation determines which approach is appropriate for your individual case.
Am I the right candidate for a smile makeover treatment?
Smile makeovers are comprehensive treatment plans combining procedures to address various aesthetic and functional dental concerns. Candidates typically have one or more of the following conditions:
- Alignment and spacing concerns: Crooked, overlapping, crowded, or spaced teeth can be addressed with orthodontic treatment (braces or Invisalign clear aligners). Treatment suitability depends on severity and individual factors.
- Missing teeth: One or more missing teeth can be replaced with dental implants, bridges, or dentures. The appropriate option depends on how many teeth are missing, bone quality, and budget considerations.
- Dental disease: Teeth affected by decay, infection, or gum disease require treatment before cosmetic procedures. This may include root canals, fillings, or periodontal therapy to restore oral health.
- Tooth discolouration: Staining or yellowing from aging, diet, medications, or tobacco can be addressed with professional teeth whitening. Results depend on stain type and cause.
- Misshapen or irregular teeth: Teeth with unusual shapes, chips, or wear can be addressed with porcelain veneers, dental bonding, or crowns depending on extent of alteration needed.
- Bite problems: Overbite, underbite, or crossbite may be corrected with orthodontic treatment. Severity and cause (dental vs skeletal) determine treatment approach.
During consultation, we evaluate:
- Your specific dental conditions and concerns
- Oral health status (addressing disease before cosmetics)
- Realistic goals and expectations
- Which procedures are appropriate for your situation
- Treatment sequencing and timeline
- Costs and payment options
Not everyone needs all procedures - your smile makeover is customised to your individual needs and goals.
What's typically included in a smile makeover treatment?
Depending on your needs, the treatment may include a single procedure or several, including implants, veneers, crowns, orthodontics, or teeth whitening. Here is what to expect when you book your first smile makeover consultation at Toorak Dental Studio.
Attending the initial appointment - During your first appointment, your dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your oral and dental health, discuss your goals, and explore the best options for your needs.
Designing the treatment plan - The dentist will create a customised treatment plan with their recommended procedures, an estimated cost, and a general timeline for the entire treatment. Depending on your dental health and treatment goals, the plan may include one or multiple procedures.
Pre-treatment procedures - Your overall dental health determines the outcome of the treatment. Before starting any procedures, you may need to treat issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, or worn fillings to ensure successful outcomes.
Performing the treatment - The duration of the treatment depends on your prescribed plan. Simple treatments such as teeth whitening typically require just one visit, while complex treatments such as veneers may take a few visits to complete.
Post-treatment recovery - After a dental procedure, it's advisable to maintain good oral hygiene and limit sugary foods and drinks. In addition, your dentist may schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your recovery and ensure lasting results.

Questions about Smile Makeovers
The duration depends entirely on the specific procedure and the individual case. For example, an in-chair teeth whitening appointment typically takes around 90 minutes, while clear aligner therapy (orthodontics) can range from six months to two years. Your dentist will provide an estimated timeline specific to your clinical needs during the initial consultation.
The suitability of any dental procedure depends on the patient’s clinical status and dental history, rather than a specific age.
- Orthodontics: Functional alignment issues are often assessed in childhood or adolescence, though treatment is available for adults.
- Cosmetic & Restorative Procedures: Treatments such as veneers, crowns, or whitening are performed on adult patients to address specific clinical concerns like tooth fracture, wear, or discoloration.
Suitability for any procedure is determined via a comprehensive clinical assessment.
The costs for cosmetic smile makeover vary based on the clinical complexity of the case, the specific treatment modalities selected, and the laboratory materials required. During your consultation, we will provide a detailed breakdown of all associated costs.
