Veneers are one of our experts here at Toorak Dental Studio, but they’re not for everyone. While they’re a great way to improve your smile and fix any aesthetic problems with your teeth, there are cases where other treatments are preferable.
Teeth whitening, dental implants, crowns, and fresh bonding are all alternatives to veneers. Fortunately, our expertise in cosmetic dentistry means that we offer high-quality services in all of these treatments. For exceptional cosmetic dental work in Melbourne, it has to be Toorak Dental Studio.
If you’re still considering veneers and want to know more about the treatment, plenty of articles on our website can help you find the information you need. Want to know how to brush your teeth with veneers, for instance? We’ve got you covered.
Popular alternatives to veneers treatment
Away from veneers, there are a number of alternatives you can choose that can fix your dental problems and bring back the radiance in your smile. These range from simpler treatments, like teeth whitening, to more surgical procedures, like crowns and implants.
Your dentist might recommend these alternatives because you’re of a certain age where veneers aren’t appropriate. Check out our article using the link provided for more information on the best age to get veneers. For details on the popular alternative treatments to veneers, continue reading.
Teeth whitening
Since the core concept of dental veneers is to improve aesthetics, simple teeth whitening procedures can be used as alternatives. If you only want to improve the colour and shade of your teeth without an unnecessarily invasive operation, teeth whitening may be more suitable for you.
You can pay for proper dental teeth whitening, but you can also purchase over-the-counter teeth whitening kits for you to do yourself. This takes a little discipline, as you have to wear retainer-style trays and avoid certain food and drinks, but it’s largely hassle-free and easy. However, make sure you use a trusted product as cheap whitening kits can lead to additional dental complications.
Dental bonding
Dental bonding, also known as composite bonding, is another alternative to veneers. A plastic filling is applied to your teeth to alter their shape and make them appear more natural. This substance goes over your existing teeth but, unlike with veneers, doesn’t require any enamel removal prior to their application.
Dental bonding might be better for you if you want to change the shape of your teeth and fix any chipped or damaged teeth. However, this solution is not as long as veneers and is not as high quality either.
Dental crowns
This alternative is more invasive than veneers, as a careful surgical procedure is needed to apply them. Luckily, this can be completed in a single appointment, so it won’t be dragged out. To install the crown onto your tooth, the top level of your tooth is shaved away before a scan is taken inside your mouth. The ceramic crown will then be made while you wait, before your dentist then applies it to the prepared tooth.
Dental implants
Perhaps the most invasive cosmetic dental treatment are dental implants. These are an alternative to veneers, but are rarely compared as a direct substitute. Implants are only essential when a tooth is missing or severely damaged.
The procedure involves drilling into your gums and through the bone tissue, whereby a screw is inserted into the bone. A prosthetic tooth is then attached to the screw and held in place. This procedure can be done for a full mouth, but only 4-6 dental implants are necessary to hold the teeth in place.
